Personal Safety

Make it a habit to follow these principles for personal safety and property protection:

  • Never prop doors open for convenience that are intended to be locked and closed for safety. This may expose you and others to unsafe conditions.
  • Report a lost/stolen PCC Card to the Information Desk (850-478-8496, ext. 2021) immediately so it can be deactivated and not used to access your funds, your room, or other card-accessed areas.
  • Report suspicious people or activities promptly to Security rather than waiting for a problem to escalate to a potentially unsafe situation. Trust your instincts and act on them.
  • Protect valuables by keeping them as secure as possible and not leaving them unattended on tables in public areas. This includes your cell phone and PCC Card.
  • Avoid nighttime risks by staying alert to your surroundings and walking confidently with purpose instead of looking at your phone.
  • Ask for a Security escort if you feel uncomfortable walking from remote areas on campus, especially late at night.
  • Stay in a group off campus for protection from crimes that typically victimize individuals who are alone and perceived to be more vulnerable.
  • If you ever feel unsafe, call Security for help. Security can even arrange assistance to a student who may be stranded or otherwise unsafe off-campus.
